News

Past Dates:

2011: Alyssa delivered nutrition seminars on a variety of topics to the City of Guelph staff while keeping up with her classroom sessions.
She’s been teaching:
-parents and staff at primary schools how to pack healthy lunches,
-high school students how to read nutrition labels and eat for exercise,
-athletes how to time their meals and snacks so that they can perform to the best of their abilities,
-adults how to prepare quick and nutritious meals and snacks to keep them fuelled throughout their busy workdays.

Alyssa’s clients have provided positive feedback after completing grocery store tours. A one hour session helps participants to understand labels and compare products to ensure that the healthiest options end up in their cart.

Currently, Alyssa is developing a new course. She’s taught you how to read nutrition labels but you’re still not comfortable tackling a new recipe (or how to find recipes that are actually healthy!) Alyssa will come to your home and teach you to make healthy meals. More information? info@backpacknutrition.ca

2010: Alyssa has been working with one-on-one clients helping them achieve their fitness and weight loss goals. Alyssa has also been busy in the classroom, teaching nutrition seminars to high school students. This year, Grade Nine and Ten students participated in hands on activities which led them to a better understanding of how to read nutrition labels and how much "bad" fat, sugar, and sodium are in some of the fast foods they love...make that used to love. Grade Eleven and Twelve students learned how to keep their blood sugar stable throughout their busy school day and how to eat for exercise.

2009: Alyssa presented seven Nutrition Seminars for the second annual "Girls Powerfit Day" at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School in Cambridge, ON. Over 400 female students from 10 schools in the Waterloo region participated in a variety of activities ranging from yoga, to boot camp, to boxing. This event is supported by the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA), supported financially by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Their goal is to motivate students to incorporate physical activity into their lifestyle to produce healthier, more active young people and adults.

Alyssa's nutrition seminar provided students with tips on how to eat for exercise. The session focussed on timing of meals and snacks in order to aid in pre-game/practice digestion and post-workout recovery.

In October, Alyssa gave three nutrition workshops for the students at King George Public School in Guelph, Ontario at an event called Day for Knights. The event is designed to empower students and boost their confidence. Students learned to make healthier food choices and had the opportunity to try out a new sport. Backpack Nutrition was proud to be a part of this special day. The event kicked off with a healthy breakfast in the gym. Kevin Kelly, Magic 106.1 broadcasted the morning show live from King George Public School.
